It has been a rough month so far!
First, I learn about a good friend’s passing (a year after it happened). He was almost 55 years old at the time. Today, I attended a memorial service for a wife (of a beloved pastor) who suddenly passed away in her sleep – she too was almost 55 years old.
Why do they leave us so soon?
The memorial was moving as the room was filled with family and friends who loved her and the pastor. Although I have never met this person, hearing the many stories from close family and friends made me wish I had. I can see how her life impacted so many around her.
The famous Bible passage was read describing the Godly characteristics of a virtuous wife – I would like to highlight a few of the passages shared in today’s eulogy:
“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain.” (Prov. 31:10-11)
A husband is beyond blessed to find such a virtuous woman in his life. I am sure it is understood that not all days would be smooth and blissful but when a man’s heart is trusting the marriage partnership, that feeling is indescribable. It is hard to articulate this emotion but men will know it when it happens.
“She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.” (Prov. 31:27)
The many stories shared at today’s memorial describes a women of God, wife, mother, and sister as one who always took care of her husband and her family while being busy at work and at home. She always lifted up the spirits of others and had the elegance and poise that would attract people to her. Many shared how they simply “knew” that they had to get to know her because something (I am sure it was her spirit and demeanor) magnetized their hearts to her. Those types of people are very rare indeed!
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” (Prov. 31:30)
This Godly woman always had positive things to say to friends and strangers alike. She feared the Lord and was always encouraging others in their personal faith in God. Her time was always given to others and she put aside her desires to ensure that others were taken care of. I heard several people shared how, if they were having a bad day, they would spend some time with this special woman and all the worries would wash away.
Oh how I wish I had the opportunity to have met her and feel the love she had shared with so many others in her lifetime. It is interesting to note that I had used the same passage at the eulogy of my first wife’s memorial.
Someone had shared that it is very rare when one meets such a virtuous woman – I agree wholeheartedly!!!
My hope is that we will all have that honor and privilege to meet someone some day – the Proverbs 31 Woman of God. The standards are high but she is God’s daughter – He will never give us second-place treasures!
Rest well my sister in Christ – we will meet one day in Heaven.
